Out of hundreds of glassware designs over the years, last year’s ground-breaking projects and design development for the Milesians Glass Co., comprising of a new range of technical whiskey glasses, has been the most crucial highlight of Katia Martins’ career so far. A former winner of several awards, the work, science and design of both the Érimón and the Finn glasses have already granted her an innovative patent, MUSE Awards for the innovative and state-of-the-art development of this whisky glassware. Focusing on the science and the ways that the glass recipe, shaping and flow of the liquid can alter the nosing and tasting perception, Katia spent almost two years in the full development of the Milesians Glass range, creating a glass that has been acclaimed by whiskey connoisseurs worldwide as being the best whiskey glass and tasting experience that has ever existed. Associating all the technical aspects of glass manufacturing with challenging, innovative new approaches to the way technical glass is designed, focusing on the experience, the performance and ultimately, the intimate interaction between glass and user, Katia has found ways of reinterpreting a classic design, seen has a standard and mainstream concept of what a whiskey glass is, by dissecting each and every single detail that makes her latest designs, vessels of differentiation and enhancement of the entire whiskey tasting experience. By generating new ways of elevating her creations, and therefore, meaningful interactions between user and product, Katia is now focused of developing that same skillset and passing on her vision of product design close to home, by enhancing the paradigm of design through The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. design studio in Portugal, where she is fully dedicated to present and provide the ultimate solutions in glassware, and continuing to be ranked as one of the world’s top professionals in glassware development.
